Feast of the Seven Fishes

The Feast of the Seven Fishes (festa dei sette pesci), celebrated on Christmas Eve, also known as The Vigil (La Vigilia), is believed to have originated in Southern Italy and is not a known tradition in many parts of Italy. Today, it is a feast that typically consists of seven different seafood dishes. Some Italian American families have been known to celebrate with 9, 11 or 13 different seafood dishes. This celebration is a commemoration of the wait, Vigilia di Natale, for the midnight birth of the baby Jesus.

On Christmas eve, I had the day off and I spent the majority, wrapping presents. Mike worked a 1/2 day at the shop and then met me at home. We napped for a few and then headed over to Mom & Dads for Xmas Eve Dinner around 4:00pm-
Below is our feast of seven fishes, which was, as usual, out of this world!!
For Appetizers, we had cold octopus salad, squid fra diavlo with toasted wheat ciabatta, stuffed clams and blue crab crab cakes-
Our Main course consisted of broiled Blackfish with breadcrumbs & slice tomato-(caught by Dad), broiled scallops & sauteed Lobster served over rice with asparagus-

  & for dessert- Homemade Cheescake by John & Sarah
