Last time I treated myself to a haircut at a new salon, the taylor swift wannabe, gave me short choppy side bangs. She did it wet so when it was dry... forget about it. What a disappointment!
...These are the bangs I really want. Is it really that hard?
Aunt Cindy can you please come for a visit:) XOXO. Have a great vacation in San Diego!! (I will let you know how the next hairdresser manages to screw up!)
Photos of the moment, inspirations, small mysteries of my daily life & food...lots & lots of food~

Weekends. to be exactly what they should.
It's a rarity that a weekend even feels like one for us these days. One of us is always working or the days are filled with too many plans, errands, things that just need to get done because we can't manage to accomplish them during the week. This weekend, was unlike any other, we literally had nothing planned, nowhere to be, nothing to do. Each moment was free and so relaxing!
Saturday Mike headed over to the lake house (yes, I already refer to it as the lakehouse, as if it's ours, or a place we frequent regularly!) to get some firewood in prep for winter. Did I just really type that..."in prep for winter!" it's only June. See. people are capably of change!
Turns out the owner of the lakehouse had an enormous tree that was cut down during the last storm and just sitting there near the fire pit and he wanted to get rid of it. This thing was massive. Literally where 3 pieces of the trunk will give us 1 cord & a 1/2 once cut. Anyhow, while he was off doing that, Carm and I were cleaning the house like crazy women! Which really means, Mom was lugging the shop vac around to each room & up & down the stairs since our vacuum shit the bed and Carm is dancing like the dancing queen that she is! Once he got home, he got Carm to fall asleep in 5 minutes (it would have taken me at least 2 hours!) I made him some lunch and went back to my crazy cleaning. (Includes vacuuming under the bed!)
Anyhow, eventually I showered and then Carm woke up and then Great Gram and Betty came for a visit. Little Carmen was very happy for the company, she showed Betty her tea set and did some dancing- meanwhile Mike worked on her sandbox outside...more like Carm's private patio. Between the sandbox and the pool...there's no room for anything else!
Afterwards, Carm played in the pool, the Mr. made some fresh whole wheat pizzas w/ tomato on the grill and headed off to his late night gig while Carm and I read stories. Once she was fast asleep, I spent a few hours editing the wedding photos & organizing the playroom.
I waited up for Mike to get home we headed off to bed around 1:30am, expecting to sleep in, which would imply maybe 7:30am since it was Sunday...however Carm was up at 5:59am so we took turns waking up. Had some breakfast, did some hanging around & once Carm went for her early nap, I headed out to the deck to sit in the sun & read. Yes, I know, that too is a rarity. I used to be in a book club and did even less reading than I do now, which is minimal at best.
I am reading this: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13548909-the-witch-of-little-italy
When Carm awoke we headed to see her Great Grandma Gillis who had just had her 93rd birthday on Tuesday. Carm colored a card for her (w/ lots of stickers) and we stopped into the local Simon's market and picked up a box of fancy shmancy teas (in biodegradable pouches), a little cupcake and some fresh oatmeal, cranberry, white chocolate cookies. Carm danced around her little apartment and showed her how she colors and knows all of the colors of her crayons. So much fun. It's so great going there, not only does she get to see her Great Gram, but all the other folks in the facility that just love to see her. They commented on her sundress and her cute pink crocs and it just brings a tear to my eye, the sweetness and joy a young child can bring to their day!
Afterwards we hit up a few stores for some shopping. Once home, we were greeted by the most amazing smell of ribs baking in the oven. The Mr. attempted to use the self-cooking feature while we were gone & it worked! The ribs had slow cooked for 2 hours and it was time to go on the charcoal grill. Carm played in the pool while dinner was finishing and then we ate outside on the back deck.
Once Carm went to bed, it was time for a nice glass of wine and I gave the Mr. a pedicure...the first one he's ever had. He couldn't believe I was so willing to scrub his feet...I almost couldn't believe it, either.
Long story, shortened, that's what weekend's are for. Now it's back to the grind. I am working this weekend AND picking up 3 shifts at the bar for the 4th of July holiday weekend. Oh boy!

The difference a year makes...
Time goes too fast, that's for sure. We've all done alot of growing, but I love looking back and seeing Carmie & Daddy from her first birthday to her second!
Carmen having such a blast with her cousins Katie & John Michael
Carm got to spend all day with Noni & Pop-pop and had a nice visit from Gram Carm. She got all sorts of fun presents; a pink radio flyer tricycle, some new socks & sneaks, a swimming pool, a giggling baby with stroller, wooden blocks, a playdoh set, an aquadoodle mat, a new fish puzzle, the list goes on!
We played it low-key for the evening when we picked her up. Grabbed some pizzas and Dawn & the kids came over. She had SO MUCH FUN with them. What a great time for the 'lil birthday girl! These pictures of everyone laughing just make me smile! (& yes, Mommy made a heart shaped cake with strawberries & blueberries)

Happy birthday to our amazing little girl, Carmen-Sophia Rose! Each day you show us more joy & love than we could have ever imagined. You are the reason for all we do.
This weekend we headed to the Roger Williams Zoo and a little mexican on Federal Hill afterwards. Carm had her first tres leches and shot (gingerale). She was so cute in her little sombrero!

I dream of...contentness
to be satisfied & not wanting more. I try each day to be present; always aware of my surroundings and being here- now. but my mind ceases to stop wanting, stop dreaming that there has to be something more than this. there are so many things, so many people who bring me joy. but the constant rat race of life, of settling for something less than i've dreamed of brings me fear and guilt and disappointment. sometimes i can't get out of my own way. yet i constantly smile, i laugh, i imagine, i wonder. there has to be some greater meaning behind it all. i've been so blessed in some ways and i am thankful. but if today is all there is then i need to be doing something im passionate about. it's time for change, time to move on, time to get going.
