Oh come on! You know what I meant ;)
"Some are bound to happiness, some are bound to glory, some are bound to live with less, who can tell your story?"
See the sky about to rain. Listen....

Dream Baby Dream
Listening to Bruce's new album (Thanks Uncle Bob). In Dream Baby Dream, which is a NYC electro-punk band; Suicide, cover, he pretty much says the same words over and over again for 5 minutes straight....and yet, and still, I love him.
And here's another snippet, not off the new album, but just as powerful:
"A letter come blowin' in
On an ill wind
Somethin' 'bout me and you
Never seein' one another again
And what I knew had come
Stars struck deaf and dumb
Like when we kissed
That taste of blood on your tongue
Don't worry, darlin'
No baby, don't you fret
We're livin' in the future
And none of this has happened yet"

All can feel wrong with the world... or all can feel completely right and listening to Bruce just makes it TOTALLY RIGHT.
Oh & Sheila, since you love EATC...close to... as much as I do, listen to Bruce's song: Livin' For the Future off his Magic Albumn and you'll think you're watching a song from EATC, for sure!

Why I am taking a pause from Journaling...and what I've learned at 33.
This saying has become all too familiar to me lately. As a best friend of mine once said, "I think you remember the past more than the rest of us, because you've written it all down." Yes, that is true. Somewhere in this house I have 60+ books piled up with days of my past written out in detail. Detail. Too much at times. I find, in time I've gone back to these memories, not by just re-reading, but by remembering, because I've written the words, they are engrained in my mind, my memory with more detail than most. And what have I learned from this in recent days....well, I've learned, I much rather would be like my husband. A man, who's never kept anything written on paper to remember a moment, a man, who barely has a handful of photographs from his past, a man who has been present, in every encounter, in every instant and has allowed himself to be IN THE MOMENT. & That's what I've missed out on and that's what I am vowing myself to be. Rather than thinking in my mind of the great poem that will come from each experience or the great photograph that will be left behind; forget the camera, and forget the book filled with blank pages, let me just be here and take it all in. Enjoy each embrace from my daughter and each laugh and really be present & in each moment.
Today, at work, I was conversing briefly with a man, whose pastor has told him he should journal. I'm not religious, so to that part of the conversation, I cannot contribute, but to the fact that as religious of a man is he, he does not take his pastor's advice to journal and as he looks back, he has no photographs or written moments for they all exist in his mind, because he experienced and loved and was PRESENT. And so he said to me, if a story cannot be remembered, perhaps it wasn't worth remembering. Oh how true. This particular man, lost his son when he was a teen. He is grief stricken but his life is forced to go on. I cannot imagine the pain he must feel everyday, but he continues to live amongst us, he works, he fights, he cries, he is no different except that he has experienced more pain and heartache and yet, he goes on, and yet, he is present, to enjoy each moment, each encounter, each embrace and he doesn't have to write it down to remember it. He remembers because he is aware.
We watched a movie over the weekend, "About Time"- A man has a gift of time travel. His father had it and his father before him. Seems too sci-fi. I know, but it isn't, it's really about love. And about the opportunity to understand that each day, that the mundane lifestyles we are forced to live, day by day, are so precious. It's about finding beauty in the mundane. His lesson was to take each day and live it but then live each same day again and find the joy and so most of the things that would stress one out on a normal day, he learns to make light of and find the laughter, find the innocence and most importantly find the beauty of. The movie was good. It wasn't spectacular in any way but I've found myself over the past few days going back to it for insight on how I want to live.
I have a very stressful job. So do a lot of people. So what? But sometimes I let my job get to me and I find it hard to disconnect and be a part of MY LIFE, outside of the workplace, because the work never seems to stop... Well, that is what I am working on. I have to learn, in many areas, not just work, to LET GO. I have to let go of so many things that my heart has held onto, that in the end, I probably don't need the burden and I probably shouldn't have exhausted myself over.
Of course I wonder why has it taken me this long to realize this- but at least I am realizing this now. There is no going back. What has come before has shaped me for the here and now, but now I have a chance to make a change for the future. To be someone I can pass on, to have a strength I can be proud of, to see two sides to a story to share with my little girl someday. It is SO IMPORTANT. These days, these days that seem to pick up speed with each year I grow older. These are the days. We need to enjoy. We need to love and be loved and we need to be present with one another. We need to focus on our conversations that are worthwhile, we need to tell those that we love, that we love them. We need to hug more & often. Kiss more & often.
It could all be gone, in an instant.
